This beautiful sculpture was carved from walrus tusk ivory, it is depicting four large sailing ships and two whales. The scrimshaw carving is very detailed with many small intricate lines. This carving has been signed by the artist under the scrimshaw picture. The length of the tusk is 5 1/2 inches with a diameter of 1 1/2 inches at the base. The tusk weighs a solid 146.6 grams.
